A Noob's Diary About Watches

I Bought the Bulova Precisionist Jet Star 96B472 – Here’s Why

I always wanted a Bulova after hearing so many good “delicious” reviews about them and so after considering for a considerably amount of time which model to get, I finally settled on this one – the Bulova Precisionist Jet Star 96B472. This is my opinion and experience owning this watch so far for 2 weeks.

Why the 96B472?

Initially it wasn’t on Creation Watches until one day I saw they have like 2 pieces during a Shopee sale. The rest of the Jet Star models were pretty “common” so why not get this grey-silver version which I feel kind of stands out.

Actual watch is very beautiful. I find it very well-polished and the amount of “polish-ness” is just right making it feel kind of bit luxurious especially under those warm lighting in a cafe. It is really beautiful I say.

Some of the critical specifications are as seen here. The diameter is 40mm. Lug width is at 20mm. Thickness going at 13mm with lug-to-lug approximately at 45mm. Water resistance is 50m with domed sapphire crystal powered by NM10 high frequency quartz movement.

I love how the watch is being polished – places that need to glitter they will polish while places that does not need glittering and invites fingerprints, gets brushed.

The silver dial is sunburst and half-polished applied indices (other than 6, 9 and 12 o’clock) further makes the whole watch shine and in a balanced way, not towards it being too bling. I would say quite eye-catching one especially in a place like coffee house with warm lighting.

You can see the Bulova fork logo on the crown located at 3 o’clock position, pulling and adjusting time with the crown is easy. There is also hacking function and it is obvious the date changes right at 12am, observed through the date window at the same location as the crown.

On the tip of the second hand, you can see it is painted in turquoise which is unique to me and sweeps like an automatic due to its high-frequency vibrations at 262KHz with time loss of +/- 5 seconds a month.

The main attraction is its domed sapphire crystal. It’s pretty large but yet very satisfying to look at. This also helps to boost the look of the entire watch, especially when light reflects against it. The crystal is just so delicious hmm HMM!

Clasp is butterfly clasp and I’m not going to lie, this is my first watch with Butterfly Clasp. I couldn’t get used to it initially but one will get the hang of it with enough time. The stainless steel links are held together by pins and needles. There are no quick micro-adjustment but there is 2 links shorter than the others which are probably the micro-adjustments you can depend on.

Stainless steel links are mostly brushed with some small parts polished as well. Changing the bracelet is easy because it comes equipped with quick release and I totally have no problems taking the bracelet off and attaching back. Very convenient and doesn’t deter me from changing out straps in future.

Case sides are totally brushed which is something I like most because handling makes it a whole lot easier, no need to care about fingerprints inking on the case sides. Caseback is closed so you won’t see the movement but anyway, this is basically a quartz so there is really “nothing to see” and if so, it’s probably not elegant at all.

Lume to me just okay, nothing too stellar about it or too lousy about it. I mean I can still see the time and the lume are placed in a practical positions, the hour and minute hands and all round the applied indices, so time can still be told in dim light situations.

To close this off, the Bulova Precisionist Jet Star 96B472 will definitely win your heart even if you are not a fan of grey-silver tone watches. The sapphire crystal I feel, is the main star of the watch. The domed crystal definitely makes the watch pop and together with the polishing is somewhat balanced not making it too bling. It is comfortable to wear and the bracelet does feel a little on the heavy side but it’s not a deal-breaker. Lume performance I say is normal, nothing great but still legible.

With all these being said, you should definitely check out this watch while it is still available.

SG WATCH DIARY

This is just a hobby blog of the watches that I have come across – meaning owned, tried wearing them and then just give a few cents here and there about them. All in plain simple English with no complicated horology jargons.

Maybe, just maybe, giving some bitching opinions on watches around too lah haha! See how but yes, priority content will still be those that I’ve physically encounter.

Oh before I forgot – this is not a watch blogshop and I’m not selling any watches here. Hope you find the content here useful lah!
