A Noob's Diary About Watches

SEIKO SKX013 DIVE WATCH 41MM – The last Seiko5 that’s unlike the rest you see now!

The SEIKO SKX007 DIVE WATCH is a dive watch still desirable by many (but still not as much as the SKX013 haha!) and it is the last Seiko5 to not bear that, in my opinion, ugly Seiko5 logo on the dial. I know what you’re thinking, what makes this watch so special that so many folks want to get one? This is all just my thoughts, nothing too technical about it like movement or the like.

First of all, it’s the design. Comparing to the Seiko5 we see today we can see this SKX007 is totally unique – the crown is position at the 4 o’clock position, the polished curvature side of the casing resembling an Oyster Perpetual and the 41mm diameter size that really fits pretty well on small wrists. All these make the SKX007 so delicious, so yummy and a watch making you looking forward to wear it daily and it matches very well for all occasions. My wrist measures 16.25 cm.

You don’t have to worry that only diver’s are allowed to wear this okay?

Next is the dial. Presented at circular hour markers with a triangular marker for its 12 o’clock position. All the markers, including the hour, minute and second hands, are applied with lume. They are pretty bright and legible in the dark. The lume is not stellar so expectations will have to be lowered and not to expect Superluminova quality. The best in my opinion is how they just place the brand name “Seiko” along with the “Automatic” just as it is in words and not the Seiko5 logo we see in the current or earlier generations. The colour matching is good, with the water resistant “200m” in dark orange as well as the “Diver’s” wording.

It has a little weight to it, not too heavy and that’s what diver watch should be. Holding just the watch alone spells toughness.

The watch is polished on the side of the case as well as on the crown but lugs are matt finished. The crown at this 4 o’clock position makes time-date-day adjustments easy. Bezel turns uni-directional and also spots a lume on the 12 o’clock position. This watch runs on automatic with self-winding function.

To be honest, it really does look like a watch wore by the military elites such as Navy Seals.

The original silicone strap was a good strap because it does not trap lint, rugged but the length does not fit small wrists well. One look you could tell what type of watch owners Seiko has in mind and so if you have small wrists, be prepared to change out a shorter length strap. Right here you are seeing an aftermarket silicone strap, pretty much similar to the original yet more soft, shorter and retaining that ruggedness accompanying you to face every challenges wherever you are.

It sure looks cool going workouts with this watch (if you don’t mind the sweat and stuff smearing the back of the watch haha!) especially going to water events like swimming or simply going on a yacht. Even better for those with thick forearms. Whoooaaaa.

Overall, this SEIKO SKX007 DIVE WATCH 41MM earns its name to be a diver watch highly-sought after. This is a very different Seiko5 dive watch you probably can’t find anywhere else these days. Not just in silicone strap but it is also available in metal bracelet version (right now the prices is rather on the overvalued side), making this watch even more attractive to own. There is a history to the SKX and this is definitely not the first version model to it.

The best part lies in the casing sides, that curve is so yummy delicious that makes one can’t stop looking at it. Not to mention, the 41mm diameter is still suitable for small wrists and highly versatile to wear this to any events. If you were to ask me, this is more than just a watch to bring out for adventures – it is a watch that will make you look so good it probably can attract attention because people will know you have taste.

This is just a hobby blog of the watches that I have come across – meaning owned, tried wearing them and then just give a few cents here and there about them. All in plain simple English with no complicated horology jargons.

Maybe, just maybe, giving some bitching opinions on watches around too lah haha! See how but yes, priority content will still be those that I’ve physically encounter.

Oh before I forgot – this is not a watch blogshop and I’m not selling any watches here. Hope you find the content here useful lah!
