The Citizen Promaster Marine NY0125-83E Automatic in Gold & Black Dial is a diver watch that sports a PVD yellow gold bezel with black dial, together with stainless steel links and casing. I’ll be frank, the colour of the watch may not be to the taste of many due to its “half gold” colour that snobs will quickly comment it as a Rolex half-gold-wannabe but for myself, I still enjoyed wearing it although nobody passed that kind of comment or gave a kind of look to me.

This Automatic watch has more than just a “poor man’s half-gold” watch. It’s for the watch enthusiast, the one who truly knows about watches.

First of all, this watch is officially an ISO-certified 200m dive watch. This means you can go diving with it if you want too. Secondly, it sports a Kanji-English day which in my own opinion is pretty special and not all dive watches these days get Kanji for day display, not to mention Sunday display is in red! Thirdly, the lume is impressive with markers very clearly visible in dim lighting conditions after getting sunlight from the outdoors.

It features a 40mm diameter, a size that I would say suitable for many wrists and has a case thickness of approximately 14mm. At 14mm it is relatively thick but to me, it wasn’t a concern at all as I’m always in T-shirts. If you are one who wears long-sleeve shirts, the wearability may be a little affected.

On the right side of the watch features a screw-down crown, with hacking function and sports Cathedral hour-hand. Hour markers are big, easy to read and easily distinguishable with a big triangle at 12 o’clockclock position. Clasp is a deployment one with micro-adjustments. Bracelet links are the held together traditionally with pins and has no quick release feature. I don’t face any reflection problems with the mineral crystal, looking at the time in broad daylight.

Bezel’s in PVD yellow gold and to my surprise after owning and wearing for a considerably amount of time, it doesn’t fade. It is a unidirectional rotating bezel, and I would like to say, it is well-made, and I mean it doesn’t get rotated easily like in the case of accidental bumps. Looking at the back, it’s a screwed case back full stainless steel and there is no window to see the movement inside. The entire watch is brushed stainless steel, not polished, so you won’t have to worry about getting fingerprints on it. 

Overall, the Citizen Promaster Marine Automatic NY0125-83E is definitely a watch you should check out or own one if you are looking for a durable, lasting and rugged kind of dive watch. While the half-gold colour may not be of liking to some, it shouldn’t deter you from considering it as your daily driver because it is absolutely feels like a tank.
