This SEIKO PRESAGE COCKTAIL AUTOMATIC SSA459J1 is a stunning dress watch that will sure capture attention of others and bringing delight to you every time you look at the time. Why? Let’s start with the case.

The case is polished stainless steel with a good case diameter of 40.5mm. It isn’t the 38mm everyone in this world at time of writing is after but it can still certainly pull off as a stunning dress watch. Come one, 40.5mm and 38mm from afar who can tell the difference unless he/she is a horologist/watch hobbyist. It wears well on my wrist measuring 16.25 cm in diameter and when you turn your wrist over, the beautiful green dial with the sunburst effect will sure mesmerised you like a charming lady. Smacking close to the 12 o’clock position is the SEIKO brand logo along with the Presage badge with Automatic wording which all the fonts seem to complement so well. 

The SEIKO font is somewhat similar to that you see in the SARB017 Alphinist but of course it’s not in gold colour.

The hour and minute hand is not difficult to read like some of the dress watches with bad colour combinations and the Power Reserve, Seconds and Date hands are in yellow making it very visible against the green colour background. Well there is a con – the Date indicator is too small but if you don’t have eyesight problems, this can be easily be ignored because this counts to only probably 2% of the entire watch, with 98% pros to it. There is a Power Reserve indicator which I think it’s very useful to see how much “juice” your watch has left, akin to that of a battery indicator in smart watches.

Without the geeky-ness.

The crown is big enough to hold a wind your watch or to adjust the time. It’s a little of a diamond-shaped and this reminds me of pilot watches eg. IWC.

I don’t wear a shirt to work but I think this watch can bring out the professionalism in you akin to much more expensive luxury watch out there – the finishing, the shine, the design and colours. It passes a signal that you are somewhat a serious worker, no nonsense yet a financially savvy person who doesn’t splurge $10000 on a watch to impress others or to show what you are made of. I think this can go wear with smart causal wear as well but just make sure the colour combination is right.

The leather strap is comfortable to wear – as you can see it has not been broken in, still stiff around the lugs there. Strangely despite this, the strap is soft to wear and evidently, it is easy to slot the strap through the strap band keeper (the loops). The clasp and buckle are also made of stainless steel, with the Seiko brand positioned nicely on the buckle with no unnecessary spacings around which can make it look cheap.
