This ORIENT KAMASU RA-AA0810N19B is a watch definitely you should consider when deciding on a diver watch whether it is as your first watch or simply a second to add to your watch collection. The brand ORIENT has simply been under-rated by many (in my opinion through observation), with the majority steering right into the brands of Seiko or Citizen when it comes to diver watches.
Okay I know, this ORIENT KAMASU RA-AA0810N19B is not ISO-certified to go diving in any way as compared to the likes like a Citizen Promaster.
But that doesn’t mean it can’t – go search the internet or Youtube you can find people who went diving with Orient dive watches and the watches are still back in one piece and it didn’t popped like an Omega during a moon mission back then. That’s real review.
The watch comes in a grey-black dial with the centre being grey fading out towards the bezel to black. The diameter is at 41.8mm and a decent thickness of 12.8mm which overall, it can fit even when you are wearing a shirt. The bezel is not Rolex-xy so you don’t have to be afraid this will be like a homage watch or other people’s opinion being a Rolex-wannabe. The bracelet comes in rather wide 22mm but this width gives a commanding feel especially to those with thicker wrists. The minute hand comes as sword hand while the hour hand is an arrow hand, which both are applied with a lot of lume making it very visible in the dark. There is also lume on the seconds hand right at the tip and more lume on every markers on the dial except 3 o’clock.
There is both day and date display, easy to see and this is what I like best in dive watch that you are able to know both the day and date without having to refer to your phone for the day. A bit kind of a professional feel, I say.
This watch has hacking function and adjusting time date on this watch is not hard – the crown (with crown guard) is easy to turn/pull and doesn’t felt cheapo in any way and as would almost all dive watches, it’s a screw down crown.
Although it didn’t get much wrist time, the times I wore the watch it felt comfortable and looks pretty luxury for the price – it is not dull, it has some glimmer from the polished surfaces like the hour/minute/second hands, markers and the case finishing despite the price. That was my reaction when I first bought this watch. It’s still respectable and does make you stand out from the crowd signalling to others that you are someone who thinks independently and don’t follow the crowd, don’t get swayed by the opinions of others.
A sign of confidence I say or bravery if you will.
The brand ORIENT has a long watchmaking history and I know, most people have their opinions on their watches. Some of the Orient dress watches I’ve owned have good timekeeping and changes date exactly at 12. Wear this in formal or casual setting, the watch still does its job well. If a watch-lover sees an Orient on a wrist, that person will know you have great taste in watches who value quality over branding without selling an arm or leg for it.
My wrist size here is at 16.25 cm.
